Hell’s Kitchen Marafa Canyon

Hell’s Kitchen Marafa canyon or Marafa Depression, are the names given to this sandstone canyon that locals call “Nyari” (“place that breaks by itself”).

Over the years, wind and rain have carved the ridge into a series of sharp gorges.

The sun bounces beautifully off the intense shades of white, pink, orange and crimson of the rock, giving you a beautiful view

Program

A half-day Marafa (Hell’s Kitchen) tour typically involves afternoon pickup from your Watamu/Malindi hotel, a scenic drive to the sandstone canyons, exploring the gorges with a local guide to see the vibrant rock formations (reds, yellows), hearing local legends, and culminating in a spectacular sunset view before returning around 1900hrs, making it perfect for photography and unique landscapes.
